Scott Miyake GeronMr. Miyake Geron is the Director and Principal Investigator for the Institute for Geriatric Social Work at Boston University. He has been widely published in the areas of geriatric social work and consumer involvement, and has been invited to speak on those topics at numerous gatherings, both in the United States and internationally. Some of Scott’s professional affiliations include the American Bar Association, Boston Partnership on Older Adults, America Society on Aging, and Gerontological Society of America. Susan Gilbert EpsteinMs. Epstein is a health and disability policy researcher and consultant with extensive experience in program planning and evaluation in social and rehabilitative services, statewide and community-based needs assessment, and quality improvement. She is the founder and director of New England SERVE, a health policy organization that conducts field research and assists states, communities, and health care organizations to measure and enhance the quality of care for children with special health care needs and their families. Ms. Epstein is an advocate committed to building and supporting consumer participation and partnerships in health care policy and service delivery. Sergio R. GoncalvesMr. Goncalves is committed to helping other disabled individuals live an independent and productive life. He serves on several boards of directors, including Project RIGHT and the Boston Center for Independent Living. He currently works full-time at the University of Massachusetts in Boston and is very active in the community, working especially with young disabled students. Mr. Goncalves exemplifies perseverance and brings great vision to the board. Frances HubbardMs. Hubbard has been a true pioneer in countless social change movements including education, prisoner rights, women’s rights, workers, refugees, socioeconomic, civil, and religious rights. As a passionate activist and dedicated educator, she continues to inspire organizational and institutional change locally and globally. A resident of Springfield, Ms. Hubbard serves as historian of the Greater Springfield Community Health Network Area and works with the Springfield Adolescent Health Project to address issues affecting teenagers in Springfield. She is also consultant and educator at Baystate’s Brightwood Health Center. Ms. Hubbard served on the board of the Haymarket People’s Fund for five years. Currently she serves on the boards of the Spanish American Union, the Performance Project and the regional board of the United Methodist Church. Lisa I. Iezzoni, M.D., M.Sc.Dr. Iezzoni is Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School and Director of the Institute for Health Policy at the Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. She has published and spoken widely on risk adjustment and has edited Risk Adjustment for Measuring Health Care Outcomes, now in its third edition (2003). She also studies health care quality, delivery system, and policy issues relating to persons with disabilities, and her book "When Walking Fails" was published in Spring 2003 and "More Than Ramps: A Guide to Improving Health Care Quality and Access for People with Disabilities", co-authored with Bonnie L. O'Day, appeared in 2006. Dr. Iezzoni is a member of the Institute of Medicine in the National Academy of Sciences. Thomas LynchMr. Lynch founded Lynch, Ryan & Associates, Inc. in 1984. As CEO of LynchRyan, he led the company to the pre-eminent position among management loss consulting companies in the United States. He is credited with creating the Massachusetts Qualified Loss Management Program, which led to the formation of an entire loss management industry throughout the Commonwealth. In 1987, Mr. Lynch and Tufts Associated Health Plan, a major Massachusetts HMO, joint-ventured the creation of ManagedComp, Inc., which ultimately grew to become the nation’s largest managing general underwriter. Active in community service, Lynch serves on the Board of Directors for numerous health, education, cultural, and human service non-profit entities, including the University of Massachusetts Memorial Hospital and Medical School Foundation, the Clara Barton Center for Diabetes Education, and the Joslin Diabetes Center. Mary Lou MaloneyMs. Maloney has been part of numerous disability advocacy groups, including the Arc of Massachusetts, Regina Villa Associates, and Mass Developmental Disabilities Council. Since 1996, she has worked with the Disability Policy Consortium, where, amongst many achievements, she has increased disability funding by $25M. Ms. Maloney is also on the board of trustees at the May Institute and the Riverside Theatre Works. Robert J. Master, Ex-OfficioPlease see Mr. Master’s bio located within the Staff section under the About Us tab. Robert RestucciaIn 2000 Robert Restuccia became the Executive Director of Community Catalyst. Under his direction, Community Catalyst has established an impressive track record working with low-income communities and state and local partners to achieve health care reforms in more than 40 states. Restuccia has represented the interests of health consumers for over 20 years. He was a founder of Health Care For All and became its Executive Director in 1989. Under his leadership, it became one of the largest and most effective state consumer health care organizations in the country. He is an adjunct professor at the Boston University School of Public Health. He also serves on the Board of Directors of the Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts Foundation, RealBenefits Inc, and Health Care for All. Restuccia has been a recipient of numerous awards for his work in health care reform, including the Families USA Health Care Advocate of the Year Award and the Gail Douglas Award of Public Health Practice. Mark ReynoldsMr. Reynolds is the Chief Executive Officer of Neighborhood Health Plan of Rhode Island (Neighborhood), a 78,000 member HMO founded in 1994 by Rhode Island's Community Health Centers that primarily serves enrollees in RIte Care, the State's nationally acclaimed managed care program for low and moderate-income families. Mr. Reynolds has served as the Medicaid director for both Massachusetts and Tennessee. He has worked on Medicaid and health care policy issues since the late 1980s. He started his career as a budget analyst focused on health issues. In Massachusetts, he served as the assistant director of the state's central budget office, the budget director for the health and human services secretariat, and the deputy commissioner and acting commissioner of the state Medicaid agency. Immediately prior to joining Neighborhood, Mr. Reynolds headed his own health care policy and management consulting practice where he supported the needs of providers, health plans, advocacy organizations, and foundations. Dean Richlin, ChairmanMr. Richlin is a seasoned trial attorney with broad experience and significant success in high stakes disputes. In recent years, he has tried a number of cases and arbitrations with tens of millions even billions of dollars at stake. From 1999 to 2004, Dean served as First Assistant Attorney General for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. In this capacity he was lead or supervisory attorney for all major cases and initiatives, including the successful defense of the Commonwealth in a six-week jury trial from a claim for billions of dollars in additional attorneys fees for legal services rendered to the Commonwealth in the 1990s tobacco litigation; oversight of all state investigations, administrative and regulatory matters, lawsuits and prosecutions regarding prescription drug pricing; negotiation of settlements in major business regulations cases, including the state-mandated environmental clean-up of the Housatonic River; the return of royalty rights for pharmaceuticals invented at the state laboratory; the payment to charities of an additional $30 million and the acceptance of governance reforms in connection with the sale of the Boston Red Sox in 2002. S. Stephen RosenfeldMr. Rosenfeld is a specialist in health access and benefits law, including ERISA, health care consumer protection, long-term disability law and several related areas. He has litigated in all federal and state courts with jurisdiction in Massachusetts, including the United States Supreme Court. Mr. Rosenfeld is active in several nonprofit organizations. He founded Health Law Advocates Inc., a nonprofit public interest law firm dedicated to gaining access to health care for vulnerable populations in Massachusetts. He also serves on the board of directors for Health Care for All and the Massachusetts Advocates for Children. Mr. Rosenfeld is dedicated to improving health care and its accessibility to the very ill and needy. Jeffrey ScavronDr. Scavron has been the Medical Director of Brightwood Health Center since 1986 and a practicing physician at that center since 1976. Under his committed visionary leadership, a community-wide public health program has been established, a pioneering care system extending to the jails has been created, and some of the most progressive care programs for the care of the elderly disabled and individuals with AIDS have been created and evaluated. Dr. Scavron is a true leader of community-based comprehensive care systems. Phil ThompsonMr. Thompson is an urban planner and political scientist. He is Associate Professor of Urban Planning at MIT. Phil worked as Deputy General Manager of the New York Housing Authority, and as Director of the Mayor’s Office of Housing Coordination. He is a frequent advisor to trade unions in their efforts to work with immigrant and community groups across the United States. Since Hurricane Katrina struck New Orleans in 2005, Phil has worked with the AFL-CIO Investment Trust Corporation and with local community groups to create affordable housing and workforce development initiatives to help rebuild the city of New Orleans. He is also coordinating MIT sponsored projects in New Orleans including work on economic development, planning, and the design of an urban information system to help guide recovery efforts. Nancy TurnbullMs. Turnbull is a senior lecturer in health policy in the Department of Health Policy and Management and the Associate Dean for Educational Programs at the Harvard School of Public Health. Her research interests include health insurance regulation, health care access, consumer participation in managed care plans, and international applications of managed care. Before joining HSPH, Nancy worked for almost ten years for the Massachusetts Division of Insurance, where she was First Deputy Commissioner and Deputy Commissioner for Health Policy. Nancy is on the board of a number of state health policy organizations, including the Massachusetts Health Policy Forum, and the Massachusetts Health Council.
